Malard Ducks

Yesterday (4-2-13) I went to one of my favorite spots (Rouge River near the Childsdale Bridge) and found these two playing in the rapids. I was a bit surprised as ducks generally prefer quieter water. It took about 20-25 shots to get this one as the male wouldn't hold still. I shot this with a 70-200 f2.8 and a 2x converter on my 5d MIII. I touched it up just a little bit in Photo Shop and for the most part I'm pretty happy with it. That being said, I'd like to hear what you think. You can't hurt my feelings so be critical and offer suggestions if you have any.

Seems to me "you got all your ducks in a row".

A very serene photograph well taken.

Cozy little pic. Nicely framed . Now you can blow it to 30x20 or more if you used low iso and fine large or raw.

Thanks Bram boy, I this shot this photo RAW at an ISO of 100, at 22 MP. I have thought about getting a big print done. On a humorous note, it's not all that cozy here. That's snow in the upper right.

Hi drj21. It's a nice shot but..., I think you could have given a little more punch with a little different composition. You said the ducks were enjoying the fast water. If you had composed the ducks into the left 3rd of the frame and showed a little more of the fast water I think the shot would have told more of your story. Cropping in a little tighter might also have improved the composition although I'm not sure if you've already cropped the picture. But I do think the rule of 3rds would have helped you here.

Enjoying the fast water is a figure of speach . Enjoying it by viewing it ducks have more sence than to be swimming in the fast part . They know they could hit a boulder and get hurt , not like some no mind humans .

Thanks for your input Lovitlots. I know what you're saying but most of the rapids is included and to the right is the rather plain far bank of the river. most of the interesting stuff is in the photo. Most of the time I like the "Rule of Thirds" and just for fun I will experiment with cropping but I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the photo as is. Thanks again for your comments though, it does get me thinking.
