Used Canon xTi

Hi, I'm new to DSLR photography. I've been using my friends Canon xTi for the past several weeks.
He is offering to sell it to me for $500.00.
It comes with the 18mm-55mm lens (not the IS one) and the 55mm-250mm IS telephoto, 2 small compact flash cards, a wireless remote control and UV filter. Oh I forgot also a Lowepro all weather camera bag.
My question is do you guys on Ugly Hedgehog think this is a fair deal, everything seems to be in good condition.

I have an XTi and it is a fine starter camera. This camera is selling for about $250 on ebay with the kit lens. If you had to buy the other lens new, you'd be looking at another $250. Used, about $150- $200. Flash cards and uv filter are negligible. The bag is good name bag, probably worth $50 used. All together it sounds perfectly fair. Almost exactly what you can expect to pay elsewhere.

That said. Never buy used from friends. This was advice given to me by my father. If something should fail (and I certainly hope it wouldn't) there will be hurt feelings and the friendship will suffer. Either you will expect him to compensate you somehow or(and this is much more likely) you will not say anything, act like it's no big deal, and harbor resentment. It's just never a good idea. If you like the XTi, fantastic. Buy it from a reputable used dealer that offers a warranty. Blame them if something fails. And your friend can sell his camera with a clear conscience.

+1 on Randy's advice - its a fair price for that combination of stuff, but NEVER buy used from a friend.

Sounds like great advice. Can your friendship stand the test if something goes wrong and you're out $500.

If there are any problems and you bought it from a friend, you wind up with a bad camera and no friend. I third the motion.

4th on the motion. XTi is a darn good camera - I've had one for 5 years now but would never sell it to a friend "just in case". Believe me - there's always that possibility.

I purchased an XSI and the basix 18-55mm lens and the 55-250mm lens. But I want to sell it and get something else.
