This may be like asking which camera to buy, but my monitor has died, and I need a new one. I would like suggestions on which brand would be best for photography. I am wanting to get get a larger one, probably up to a 24 inch screen. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Don

If you are really into photo editing and need a quality monitor for photography, there is only one monitor to consider 'Eizo' they are made for photographers.

my condolences on your loss. You may only get a 24 inch now, but they grow quickly. However they are all quite photogenic.

I would send a great link on choosing a monitor to Bridgeman but since his monitor is dead he wouldn't be able to read it.

I don't have one yet - - but plan on getting 3 of these when {if} my ship comes in. These will go side-by-side in a 90-degree corner surround - - see upper right hand corner in the illustration below :-) - - once our final money-pit is constructed :-)

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED LCD Monitor - 16:10

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2412M-LED-Monitor/dp/B005JN9310/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1365119524&sr=1-2&keywords=Dell+Ultrasharp+Monitor

Consistently good reviews, LED lit, 16:10 aspect ratio (so you CAN do those 1920x1200 things !! - - I think the Acer is 1920 x 1080) and a good price. The first review (most popular review) says it all. No - -you are NOT buying an $800 professional graphics display - - but unless you make your livelihood with photography, it's unlikely you need that last little iota of fidelity that you get by spending the extra $550.

You might want to think about 4x3 resolution so that pictures are sized correctly.

?? It's pretty hard to find a 4x3 monitor any more - - they've all been replaced by 16:9 and 16:10 ratios - with the 16:9 being far more common. Monitor aspect ratio really shouldn't affect photo editing at all - - as the window you edit in can have any aspect ratio you want. Aspect ratio would only come into play if you were displaying your images full-screen.
