Go to Adobe and download the trial. You get 30 days with it. I love it but honestly I don't think I get $800 worth of use with it. Adobe now even has where you can get a subscription to it, but if you use it very often you'll end up paying more in the long run.

This is the editing program that I use all the time. There are also others I use, but this is my favorite one!

I post process all my photos in Photoshop CS5.
If you believe that 'post processing' is important then you can not get better package than Photoshop CS5.

Its probably the best program out there, but it take time and effort to learn. You will get great results if you put the time into it. I use it on all my images.

I wish there were college courses that teach Photoshop. It would definitely take at least a semester to just scratch the surface with everything PS can do. I spend a lot of time on www.photoshopusertv.com and www.kelbytv.com. I love the videos and the guys are a lot of fun.

Photoshop CS5 is designed for professionals and even if you are a full time digital graphics pro you will not use all the tools all the time.
For photographers I think that a relatively inexpensive way to get going is to buy and study.....

I have also used this site for many of the graphic manipulation part of photoshop. Great individual tutorials on anything you can think of.

For questions like this the answer always seems to be, " It Depends". If you are looking for a program to just do some post processing of your photos then there are less expensive ones out there. Adobe Photoshop Elements is a great program for that and it's only around $100.00. I have used a lot of the different versions of PS and they just keep getting better an better. From the very simple to the extremely difficult, there are so many different ways of doing things in that program. Regardless of what photo editing program you decide to purchase you will have to spend the time learning the program. For me, that is the fun time. From the relatively short time I have been coming to this forum I have found that there are A LOT of very talented Photoshop users here that are more than willing to help you if you decide to take the plunge.

Most of the new features are for 3D. If you work with a lot of 3D graphics, then you should buy it. The other new features basically allow you to do the same things you can do in CS4. Adobe just made it easier to to access the tools.
