Lady beetle life cycle

This Lady beetle nymph is only 3-mm body length. Both Lady beetle nymphs and adults eat aphids, nearly exclusively. This image is cropped to about 6:1 magnification (6x life-size).

Photographed at the Fullerton Arboretum, Cal State University, Fullerton.

Hand-held Nikon D90 at ISO 400, Nikkor 105D macro lens, 1/200-sec at f/22, open shade & SB-600 speedlight with O-Flash 3/4-circle Fresnel prism diffuser attachment.
