Hello to everybody. Can anyone provide a suggestion for my problem.
I have filters for 52mm kit lens & now I want to use it for 62mm (70-300) lens. Can I use a step-down convertor ring to reduce the diameter from 62 to 52mm.Will it cause any problems like vignetting or distortion like that.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you hold the filter in place, in front of the lens, and take photo's to check before purchasing a step down ring. There is no hard fast rule that cut-off will, or will not occur.

o.k thanks pablo8.But in this case I need a solution based on experience if I can or not.B'cause if it's a rule then I can buy step down ring or filters to match 62mm diameter.
Thanks

It's highly likely there will be vignetting.
What is the difficulty with holding the filter in place as was suggested above?

Yes, stepping rings are your answer. I use a variety of stepping rings to step up or step down for various lenses.

Thanks kendo 1 & leicaflex. But Leicaflex, is it a proven method for you without the resulting image without any vignetting problen to use a step down ring from 62 to 52mm.If the answer would be yes then I can use all my 52mm filters to be used with my other lens which supports 62mm filters.thanks

Get filters that fit the biggest lens size and use step up or step down rings to connect to the smaller lens. much cheaper than buying filters for each lens

It does depend how wide an angle lens you have. I find I can use stepping rings down to 10mm, after that there is slight vignetting.

Thanks mborn & leicaflex. I use 18-55 kit lens for my d5100 whose filter size is 52mm & a 70-300 lens whose filter size is 62mm.Am having filters for 18-55 (bought initially). Have to suit 18-55 (52mm) filters to 70-300(62mm)lens using step down ring.Anyway will adapt your sugesstions. Thanks

They are called step UP rings as you can only go UP in size. You need to buy filters for your largest diameter lens, then purchase step UP rings for your smaller lenses to step up to the larger filter. Cannot use any of your 52 mm filters on any lens larger than 52mm or you WILL have vignetting.

You are wasting your time and money. You cannot step down in filter size from 52mm to 62mm on any lens focal length wider than around 50mm used at f8 and smaller apertures.

It is quite a big step down. Problems more likely to arise with wide-aperture or wide-angle lenses than the opposites. Maybe you could get away with it

Sound right to me. I've only used a 62mm filter on a 58mm lens.
