Does anyone use one for your photo work? How hot does it get? I have been looking at one with retina. Thanks

I use one all the time, it can get warm but if you vent it with a spacer it will cool. Mine doesn't have retina display but I wish it did. You will love it.

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro. (W/o the retina display). I would recommend it because its a fast computer. But iPhoto is just basic, if you want something pro like, be sure to get photoshop for Mac. But iPhoto for MacBook is just basic enough to get you from point a to point b.

Thanks. I don't want to spend money on photoshop until I see what kind of computer I am getting.

Overall it's a super fast computer. Just make sure it doesn't get overheated. And iPhoto is just the basics. That is if you don't mind not having your photos copyrighted with you name on them. I think that's my only issue with iPhoto. Other than that its good.

If you're serious enough about taking pics to get a retina mac book, consider light room 4, which is a fraction of photo shop, and many pros will do up to 90-95% of their editing in light room.

I recently changed from PC to Macbook Pro because I was fed up of the thing constantly slowing down despite my many attempts at good maintenance. I bought the Macbook without the retina display because I did not feel that I could justify another £500, and I wanted an integral CD player rather than having to buy a separate add-on. I really love the Macbook, it's fast, reliable, robust and 12 months ago before the retina display came out it was the best of the bunch. If this is not enough it is a thing of beauty! Go for the retina display if cost is not a problem, but whichever you choose you won't be disappointed.

Well, if you like putting your copyright on your photos, you can't do that with iPhoto. That's the only bad thing with a MacBook. That is unless you get like photoshop or some editing software that does let you put your copyright on you photos

Until recently, I used Photoshop Elements and was able to do some very good post processing. (95% of the images on my web site were processed using Elements). Elements is much cheaper than Photoshop -- sometimes can find it for ~$60, but even at ~$95 it's a bargain.

BTW, I just got a MacBook Pro with large HD and RAM but with old screen. Love it.

I use a MacBook Pro with Lightroom 4, PSE11 and now CS6. The MacBook works just fine, love the screen display (not retina).

Make sure you load it up with as much RAM as you can afford.

I have been using a MacBook Pro for years. Aperture is a great photo program. You can buy it at the App Store for $80. It is a great organizer for your photos and will work with iPhoto.
