The first one is really cool. (Yeah, I'm fron another generation because I use the word 'cool'.)

I think it's the cast skin of a cicada.

Your spider is a Trashline Orbweaver spider (Cyclosa turbinata). I have seen and photographed only one. If you can relocate, photograph the line of insect bodies attached in the web.
