I'm a newbie at this and would like some opinions on a flash unit for my cameras. I have a Nikon D3200 and a Nikon D7000. As a retiree on a somewhat limited budget, cost is a factor. Thanks to all. Nick.

Welcome Nick to UHH, I only use my camera flash so I won't be much help , but you are in the right place to get. Someone here will give you some good insight and steer you in the right direction. Post us some photos, I also have the D3200.

Reconditioned Nikon SB400 or SB600 might be a good place to start. Go to the Nikon Store on the web for factory refurbished, cameras, lenses and flash units.

Amazon search for youngnuo flashes I have one and use it along with my SB 600 flash.
If you are looking for nothing fancy check out the Nikon SB 400 it cost about $140.00 the flash head tilts for bounce flash. I thought I would try it once at my daughters basketball game just for kicks and after that game it was on my camera for every game
