D600 factory refurb for $1686 or new for $1999. I will buy better guarantee either way. Any thoughts?

Would you always buy a new car or a new build house ;)

Nothing wrong with pre owned from a reputable seller

Could you make use of the $300 you save for accessories
Also the majority of Photographers care for their gear

Factory refurbs are usually just as good as new. It appears that the $300 price difference isn't an issue. I, therefore, recommend the new. The fact that you asked this question says to me that in your mind there is a doubt as to the quality of a refurb. Get the new for peace of mind.

And I totally took your advice. Am now a proud owner of great equipment and a lot less owner of "mooolaaa". Thank you. Got 24~70 70~200 2.8 with filters, tripod, remote, D600, and other stuff. Love photography! Thanks again for helping me make some cool choices.

I did all of my buying at Adorama. The lenses are Nikon and spoke with Jimmy Newmark ext. 2138

Thanks and you also. What prime lens do you recommend?

FACTORY/MFG refurbs are often in "better" condition than a "new" one simply because a 'refurb' individually goes through ALL the inspections making sure it is up to specs. Not EVERY lens off the 'new' assembly line gets the ultimate final inspection.
I would actually prefer a FACTORY/MFG refurb than a new one, even if the prices were identical.

Nothing wrong with buying factory refurb. I haven't bought a "new" camera in years! Just know who you are buying from.

I totally agree Wahawk, wish I knew this before I bought some of my lenses new. Have since bought some refurbed and am quite happy. They work like new and I saved a bunch. Make sure they are factory refurbs by the manufacturer not someone else! Enjoy the ride! :-)

Factory rehab unit is more completely tested and perfect than standard new off the shelf -- and saved you money. I have a 6 year old 17 inch MacBook Pro that still runs like a charm and has never given a problem. 5D Mark II works perfectly too, at a good savings, bought from the factory. Factory "refurbished" is the way to go if offered.
