Was on ebay last night-all normal. Got up this morning & ebay won't open. A pop up says something about AVG Isearch. I have used AVG security for years & tried to phone their customer support. It is Good Friday in Oz & they are off air until Tuesday.
So, I googled AVG Isearch. Apparently it is not nice & I did find instructions on how to remove it. However, the 9 step instructions are like a cross between double Dutch & Chinese-I couldn't follow it.
Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem, as I suspect that I am not Robinson Crusoe.
The first thing I do when something strange happens is to reboot.
You likely have a malware virus of some kind.
Someone that knows about these things will likely be along shortly...

Hi y'all. First thing I did was reboot. Also did full scans with AVG, Ad-Aware, & Trojan Killer. None of these detected anything abnormal. This AVG Isearch, whatever it is, seems to be not connected with AVG Security, in spite of the name.
You must have installed it with an update.
It's just avg, no malware or virus, and so can be uninstalled relatively easily.
What operating system are you running and what are you using as your browser?

Thanks Ken. Windows 7-64 bit-Explorer.
Earl.
Try this first:
Internet Explorer 8 and 9
Click the Tools button (gear icon in the upper right) and select Internet options.
Under the General tab, click Use Blank (or enter a new home page).
Under the Programs tab, click the Manage add-ons button.
On the left, select Search Providers.
Click on another search engine and click the Set as default button.
Click on AVG Secure Search and click the Remove button.
Note: It may not be removed from the list until you restart Internet Explorer.
Open a new tab, click on Settings in the bottom right corner and uncheck the box.
click OK and restart Internet Explorer.

Hi Earl. I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem. But I just saw on TV a lot of web sites are running slow from someone screwing around with them.
I would love to be able to help, but I am lucky to find the on button on my Mac.:):):)

Of course, you could uninstall AVG and then reinstall it - just make sure that you uncheck their default option of AVG safe search as your default search bar when you reload it.

It might be the blind leading the blind, Erv. I live on my own. If I had ready access to a 9 year old grand kid, he/she would have it fixed in 5 minutes.

This is strange. I have used AVG security for 5 years & am very happy with it. I had never heard of AVG Secure Search until today. Whatever the problem is, it only came in overnight-all was well when I went to bed last night. Another strange thing...ebay appears to be the only site affected. Everything else is hunky dory.

EUREKA....It's finally fixed. Now I can talk to Mr Ebay & buy some bit's & pieces for my new D7100. Thank you everybody for your input. I really appreciate it.

what you have to do?
Hi Pusher. I followed the instructions of Kendo1,(see above). This got rid of AVG Secure Search, but I still couldn't open ebay. I turned off both the laptop & the modem at the wall, waited 10 minutes, & booted up.
My prayers were answered--everything back to normal.
