Thanks for the links. Fascinating subject. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

3D printing may be what our overindustialized and worn-out nation needs for revitalize its GDP potential. Imagine, instead of sending work overseas, it can be done in a small office environment.
Forget the guns. It's illegal for you or I to manufacture the "lower receiver" of an AR-15 (the "gun" part of the gun) by any method. Let's consider productive, profitable products utilizing this new technology.

The R&D possibilities alone are a game changer!

Sounds great but it'll be immediately outsourced overseas. As far as R&D we are probably already behind. It really would have an effect on every type of production. A whole new world.

Come on, pounder35! I know there's an optimist in you somewhere! Sure, some of it will be done elsewhere, but there is more creativity and imagination in this country than all other places on the planet combined! THAT'S our resource, and 3D printing can be the tool of expression of that resource. It can instantly change from manufacturing a widget to a wombat, to keep up with any innovation. No more time-lag from idea to market. No more giant factory needed for production. I could hook up with 25 other people in their homes to manufacture Leggos, or, whatever. The possibilities are endless...

Actually I'm a very optimistic person. It's probably not detected in some (most) of my posts in the GCC section. But I'm also a realist. It seems like every innovation in technology or other fields is immediately hijacked (stolen). Copyrights and patents mean nothing to our "friends" in China.
