Originally called "Armistice Day".
November 11, 1918, at 11:11 AM. Armistice of WWI, arguably the nastiest war ever! Men on both sides pulled themselves out of the mud and filth-filled trenches for the first time in years without fear of being shot. Some walked across "No Man's Land" to shake the hands of their former enemies, then all turned and made their weary way home, if there was a home left to return.
Happy Veterans' Day to all, past and present!!

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below."

Thank you! "In Flanders' Fields".... one of my favorite poems.
"We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved. And now we lie
In Flanders' Fields."
