I am new to this and I am looking for a great lens to use for portraits, indoors as well as outdoors i have a canon T2I eos rebell could some one please help .

First, grab the Canon 50mm "Nifty fifty" - about $100 or so.

It's cheap, has very decent optics, and you can't beat the price for the quality.

Portraits generally don't require a zoom factor, so you'll probably be best served with prime lenses - perhaps a 35mm, the above mentioned 50mm, and an 85mm.

Those three will cover a huge amount of potential.

Canon, Sigma or Tamron are the three biggies in the Canon market.

actually according to my lesson from NYIp on lenses the best range for portraits is 85mm to 135mm. If you are shooting digital a 50mm lens will get you do about 85mm due to sensor factor.

Yes. The OP has a crop sensor camera, the 1.6 rule comes into play. But a 135mm lens on a crop sensor might be a bit too much, working out to the equivalent of a 200mm+ lens...
