There will be no Second Amendment in Heaven, or in the New Earth to follow.

If I had my druthers, all guns and weapons of warfare and aggression would be eliminated. Wars would cease, and we'd use our energies and resources to solve the problems of the poor and third world countries.

That's the world is I would have it. Unfortunately, we live in a different world.

As a veteran (medical) and devout Christian, I agree with you entirely.
I still feel that the presence of state welfare is a failure of the churches. We should be supporting our own poor and sick and as we do that more will be drawn to us for our love. A good friend of mine said that after the rapid expansion of Christianity in the 1st and 2nd century, Satan pondered on it and said, "What a great idea! I think I'll organize it." Don't be misled, I attend church regularly (but not religiously).

If I could wave my magic wand, I would abolish ALL religions from earth, then the weapons of aggression would be obsolete.

Of course we know that all wars were started by religion. The problem is not religion, it is bad people that do things in the name of religion. Evil exists everywhere. I know atheists don't think there is any such thing as a bad atheist, but then again they always think they are the only ones who are right.

Read your Bible. People have been killing people since the beginning of time. They used rock's, knives, swords, & ect. You do have a good dream though.

Think about human nature as far back as recorded history goes. It is filled with conflict and war. Will never change.

Really? Where do you get that impression? I know a lot of atheists (their numbers are growing) and some are good, some are bad. Your faith, or lack of it, has nothing to do with your being a good or bad person.

Don't think so, because there would still be evil. One fact we cannot ignore.

It is a nice thought, but a utopian one. We are the ultimate form of the animals that occupy this earth. Cunning, greedy, selfish, mean and cruel. That doesn't mean we don't do some good deeds because we also possess concience, but the id and the ego is always in a state of conflict.
Religion, as it was originally intended, was a good thing. It advocated goodness in humans. But the moment it was born, it became a tool for those who wanted to use it to gain power. If we didn't have any religion, we would invent one, which is how the whole thing had sterted in the first place. To put an explanation to things we could not explain otherwise. To be a good, decent person, one does not need religion, and just because one has religion does not make him or her a good person. As for wars, as long as someone has what someone else wants, we will keep having them.

Just as the weapons of aggression became obsolete under Joe Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Mao Tse Tung, Idi Amin and Pol Pot?

Someone posted here a dialog that was attributed to Einstein, suggesting that there is NO evil in the world, but merely the absence of good. If anyone has been watching the mini-series "The Bible" on tv, it covers some of the violence within the "church". Also, the disciple Peter, was something of a hot-head. A disciple who carried a sword!
