What's new with your diffuser? Larger?

You use an SB-400, correct? If so, I'm curious what you shot at with the larger diffuser. I was just out and I had to go to 640 ISO @ f/22 with the flash Manual @ 1/4. This was with my 105 with 68mm extension. I was shooting aphids-- about the only thing I've found, lately. It's pretty overcast here... so that was my daylight exposure. My diffuser is smaller--about 3"x4". I was thinking of building a larger one like Shahan uses-- but it might be time to buy a more powerful flash. No budget right now.

yes sb400, i shot at iso400 1/13 power. i turned it up from 1/20 because my batteries are getting low. i don't see why you think your sb400 is under powered if you are only using 1/4 of its power.

When I downloaded... they all looked hot, so I dumped the lot. It's too late to go back out. I'll experiment so more. I had been using 1/16 @ iso 500.... That appears closer to your setting. I do think I have less light overall here in the Pacific NW-- I try to balance flash to daylight....
