It can be stiff, push from low down on the front whilst pulling from the back, one assumes you have undone the locking collar

Are you sure that it is unlocked? Maybe the locking mechanism is broken? Do you have a local camera shop you can take it to?

I agree seems like the only thing that could go wrong is the locking mechanism. Try locking and unlocking - should be able to feel it locking and unlocking. If it isn't working and stuck in lock position can hold base of flash and gently but firmly try to slide off camera. If you don't want to try this I would take to a camera store as already suggested.

If you're sure that it's unlocking, I would try just a bit of WD-40 at the place where the flash meets the camera. It sounds like a locking problem, though.

when you turn the lever to lock position, a small pin extends down into a hole in the camera's flash mount. This pin keeps the flash in place and from sliding off. The pin is probably not retracting when you turn the lever to the unlock position. If the lever has any play, then it may not be retracting the pin completely. It is also possible that the pin is jammed into the hole. Try pushing the base of the flash forwards or backwards just a bit to free the pin so it can be retracted. Also, try removing the flash while camera is up-side down.

The pinlock is locked.
Insist gently several times, if does not work you'll have to disassemble the shoe

Make sure it is UNLOCKED. Turn the camera UPSIDE down when you try to remove. Wiggle gently as you try to remove.

You can try sliding a thin piece of plastic under the shoe to lift the pin . You'll need a sharp edge on it..

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Bottom line, I'll probably take it to the shop
