Very cool shots Doug. I was surprised to see they were done on a tree.

thanks Erv, they are kind of cool. soft to the touch as you can imagine how many hands have touched passing by. thanks for your comment.
Hi DW :-) Thanks for bringing variety to the group..nice shots, thought I would add a little to the subject matter :-)
Negril Jamaica is full of wood carvers and people selling carvings! From carvers selling their blood sweat and tears to the carvers selling cheap imports from China and other places around the globe. The prices range from a few dollars up to several hundred dollars depending on size, how complex the piece is and how willing the tourist is to pay for something they want on their mantle at home. Several of the real carvers are willing to do pieces that you dream up or something that is special to you instead of stock art. Others are willing to sell whatever they have in front of them for whatever you are willing to pay
..so long as they agree.

Robbie, thank you for your comment. This was our first trip to Jamaica and we found the "local people" to be extremly friendly but very competitive for the dollar. The resort we stayed at offered a short trip to a local shopping mall called Times Square, we were forewarned that most if not all of the merchandise there was from Asia. It was certainly apparent to me as I observed serval boxes in the store that were clearly cheap Chinese cardboard, sticks out like a sore thumb. The stores were managed or owned by people not from Jamaica, but someware in the mid east. We also noted at many of the beach venders had the same type boxes stuffed under the tables displaying their wares. We also walked a short distance one morning to a small, I'll call it flea market" across from the resort an saw similar junk. There was one fellow there however that was actually doing some carving and his finished work was really nice. We did manage to pick up a few things to remember our trip by. We both felt a little uneasy as Jamaica is a very poor country. I really enjoyed the beach musicians that we saw each day performing for tips. That was money well spent, and they were really fun to interact with, at least I feel like I got something for my money. I even had fun with the hustlers trying to sell weed to any body passing by on the beach. Tell them I don't indulge and no problem and they always showed respect. Had a great time. Thanks again.
