Unremarkable picture of a Periwinkle, perhaps . .

Nothing special, except the picture was taken through this 1900 Ross lens
mounted on this rig:
So, dig out Grandpappy's lenses and give 'em a go.
The bellows may involve some sort of lash up, but if the lens axis is at rt. angles to the sensor, and centered, all will be well.

But what a brilliant photo of a periwinkle. I suspect we could do it with other lenses. The trick is finding the right periwinkle

I know what anastigmat means, but how you double it is a mystery!

You have done a splendid job! I know that a modern closeup/macro is more practical, but that looks so much more fun! My wife thinks I am nuts, but you are a true enthusiast!

Does periwinkle need full shade to grow?

They grow like weeds here in Portland-- but we do live in "full shade"

The lens probably has 2 groups each being a 3 element group cemented together, each group is a anastigmat, the lens should be symmetrical meaning the front & back groups are identical but pointed in opposite directions. It should be good for a closeup lens.

Interesting, and back then they had to do all the design maths with diagrams and long calculations by hand with log tables. That alone has got to be worthy of recognition!

... and the lens itself is also beautiful! What an enjoyable "kick" it is to try something just to see how well it works. Great post - thanks!

Many thanks.
Two minds but with a single thought!
Lenses are just magic, aren't they?
