Any chance of adding spell check to this forum so we can understand what some of these people are writing.

???? but I think I know what you are referring to. I don't think a spell check is what they need, a grammar checker maybe. I'm a bit oldfashioned but there is some pretty rough spelling around. Cheers.

There is a spell check when I write.
You can't force people to use one though.

Poor grammar and the lack of understanding of the English language can not be corrected with a spell checker.

I also wonder if this could be seen by some as being exceedingly rude, NOT by me as I agree, perhaps a grammar check also!

There are few differences in Aus/English and American as in our spelling of colour think yours is color have seen a few other words that are spelt differently.

Spell check has picked up color as wrong not a big deal I have always been very bad at spelling and I quite like the spell check

But there ARE many posts that I don't even bother responding to as I could be rude in my response, e.g

"I ad a new lense over day an waned to now if it workd on me new camra".

This form appears often here, and I do wonder why, not only the spelling but no sign of a thank you perhaps after the question, or

"Please" can you help, I...........

or

"...on me new camera, thank you".

You will not see me ask a question without adding one or the other.

Spell checking does not pick up incorrect use of words, only incorrectly spelled words.
Of course, it depends which one you use.
'Spelt' is in the Oxford English Dictionary but not in the Cambridge English dictionary.
I use Mozilla Firefox for my browser which seems to use the Cambridge dictionary and therefore picks up 'spelt' as mis-spelled. :)

Too many people are used to the current "texting slang" that is all about abbreviations and shortcuts. It carries over into everything they do. Thank goodness the new phones are using speech to text to we can understand the texts better too!

Then there are those that use "smartphones" to access the internet and this site and as a result it is much more difficult to type, read and correct what has been written.

If it isn't clear, just ask. Then if they don't respond and clarify, oh well they didn't want to be understood.....

My old Blackberry packed up (in fact it slid into a glass of milk from my printer) so I got my son and me (correct grammar) each the Motorola Razr I.

I prefer talking to typing BUT I do wish it would not alter my English to either Americanisims (sorry) or this abbreviated chat used now

Advice: Tolerance
Action: Ignore and move on

You will soon forget and return to a happier frame of mind.

More advice: We should all continue to try to improve everything we can; including spelling, grammar and behavior.
