I called the 800 # to make a reservation for our trailer at Yosemite NP.
I told the cust svc rep that I have a 32 ft. 5th wheel trailer and was given a site.
When she processed it, she said the confirmation said max 24 ft. even though the website said 35 ft.
She gave me the number of the onsite reservation office at Yosemite to verify that the rig would fit.
I called and got Mr. Disinterested. (Why would anyone given the opportunity to work in such a beautiful place be so cruddy?)
I told the guy my story and he says the site is for motor homes only and my trailer won't fit because they back differently. REALLY? (I drove big rigs for over 30 years and never knew that.)
He says I must call back and change to a different site because they will not let my trailer into the site.
Here is where it gets good.
I call the reservation number and a very efficient woman answers and I tell my story to her.
I told her about the confirmation of 24 ft. and that the site online says max 35 ft. but that my 5th wheel is 32 ft. and that I can unhook and park beside or such.
After some other nonsense, she tells me I cannot bring the trailer into the park because there is a 35 ft. maximum combined vehicle length in the park.
About now, I am bouncing off the wall and really stressed.
She tells me there is a discrepancy and will put me through for a refund with a $10.00 charge to cancel.
I hung up.
After getting my composure back, I call the park info line.
I talk to a very helpful supervisor in the public information office and he says there is no 35 ft. vehicle length in the park. (How would tour buses get in?)
He tells me to call back the reservations office in the park and ask for Eric, the supervisor.
I call and Eric is not there but I get someone who is familiar with the sites.
I explain the situation and he tells me that, with my trailer overhang, I can simply back the trailer back a bit farther and let the rear overhang beyond the end of the asphalt and if worst came, I could unhitch and park my truck crosswise in front of the trailer.
And, he says I will not be thrown out of the spot.
I called back to be sure the reservation had not been cancelled by the "very efficient woman", it had not so all is well.
BREATHE!!
And this cust svc center is in America.
I can tell you that I have had better service from those in India and the Phillipines.
Now I will try to calm down.
Sorry if you think this boring but it was a very big deal to me.

Actually, the govt. people were most helpful.
It was the private contractor that does the reservations that caused me the grief.
I suspect the problem was your accent ("Someplace Remote Near LA"). You wouldn't be coonass by chance? If they understand you in Louisiana or East Texas, they won't understand you in California!! LOL!!

California boy all the way but thanks for asking.
It was not language but a stupid, know-it-all bimbo that caused my grief.
I still cannot understand where she thought she had knowledge of driving rules in the park.
As to accent, many years ago my wife and I were traveling in Cape Cod when I went into a drug store to buy some aspirin.
The pharmacist ran out from behind the counter and shook my hand.
He said, "You're from California, that is where I am from. I knew by your accent."
Until then I never knew Californians had an accent.
BTW, "Someplace Remote Near LA" is a play on words of:
Remoman and
Remote and is based on the fact that I am near Los Angeles.
And Remoman is also a play on words but I will not tell it.

And that is why I got rid of my big-assed trailer and bought a 22.5 foot long Mini Winnie. Best thing I ever did for camping. Unbelievably easy to use, both to pack and pack up. I can literally decide to go somewhere, pack some food and be driving off in less that an hour. Leaving for home even quicker! Many of THE most beautiful campsites won't even allow those oversized rigs in. Why even go camping if you're gonna send so much time inside your trailer? Just saying cuz it's been such a blessing going smaller. =) Btw, I feel your pain. Enjoy your visit and consider experiencing some of the park w/o your camera/s. It's hard, I know.

I have never had a problem with my 5th W getting in and it is easy to drop the trailer and tour.
And the maintenance is cheaper than a motor home.
As to seeing the park, I have been blessed to have backpacked most of the Yosemite back country.
Thanks for the good wishes.

Nice try to turn this political Pounder35 but there is nothing political about this.
The problem was just a dummy that did not know what she was talking about - kind of like your post.

Soooooooooo THIS is what happens when Public Education victims enter tor work force.
Had my idea about all high school graduates being compelled to serve 2 years in the military branch of their choice.
8 weeks of basic combat training and a couple years working in military environment really does make one mind right, s well as teaches one to overcome personal limits, see the bigger picture and not to take ones self so seriously. Humility is a wonderful thing, and the military is a great place to learn it
Sorry you had to deal with the beaurecratic BS

Just remember, this work was outsourced.
I think it is a prelude of what would happen to much more if govt. functions are bid out to private businesses.
And thanks for the good wishes.
It was well worth it to spend 5 days in Yos when the falls are at their fullest.
You must have all the amenities of home in that 35 footer. I'd like to get something like a 25 foot trailer to pull with my Jeep when my wife retires and just take off around the country. What all do you have in your trailer? What kind of security do you have?
