Does anybody else have this lens?
I've owned it for a few years and sort of forgot I had it put away. Got it out and had a play and remembered why I put it away.
The zoom has sort of got a hard spot in it. All most like it fills up with air then has to 'puff' out the air to get past that spot.

Hard to explain but anyone with the lens and with the same problem would probably understand.
I contacted Sigma NZ some time ago and from memory they were going to charge heaps just to look at it so I put it away and forgot about it.
Its a big imposing piece of glass and originally was going to use it as a portrait lens.

I'm not personally familiar with that lens. Is it a push-pull or a twist? I presume it isn't worth the effort to force it past that point?
There are other independent camera repair centers who might take a look at it for far less.
If you go to the search function and type in 'camera repair' you'll find a number of additional options. In fact, you might do a google search for those in New Zealand.

Tony, even though your 24-70mm lens says Macro on the barrel it is not really what is considered to be a Macro lens. I think that if you posed this question in the regular photo forum that you may get more feed back from members who own the same lens... People posting in this forum do not shoot macro with that lens.

Thanks for the advice. Have posted on the General forum but you may have answered something for me as well.
Interestingly, It doesn't have MACRO on the lens itself. It has macro on the box and on the headings on the paperwork and instructions though. And the serial number on the sticker on the box agrees with the serial number on the lens. But no MACRO on the lens itself.

This was my first and last sigma and purchased when I had a bit more money than I have now. Being retired I am now going through a lot of old gear and trying to resurrect some of it to use again.

Don't be confused about Macro, almost all manufacturers sell zoom lenses with the so called macro function, but it is really a close up feature, true macro lenses are prime lenses that are able to focus close enough to create an image the same size on your sensor as the objects is in real life or "life size"... also denoted by the ratio 1:1. Your lens is capable of reproduction on the sensor of 1:5.3 meaning just a little under 1/5th life size.

Sigma's are generally know for their quality, if you bought it new I would explore warranty options, that is a relatively expensive lens and I would not give up on it so easily, I would talk to Sigma directly if that is possible.

No, way way out of warranty. Had it for years.
But will pursue a repair here locally maybe just not through Sigma.

Been a while sence I had one of those apart , but if memory serves me correctly it's not that serious of a repair.
