its much bigger than i usually see.tom
Female Bold Jumper (Phidippus audax). Red spots indicate as immature. As the spider ages (and molts), the spots change to orange, then eventually white as a mature adult. Bold jumpers are one of the largest of jumpers.
A great set Tom, and a beautiful spider. I'm learning more about spiders here on UHH and jumpers are so cool. Thank you Nikonian for the additonal info on this particular jumper. Very interesting

The iridescent sections are called chelicerae. Spider fangs extend from bottom of chelicerae.
Thanks Tom and Douglass, never stop learning. Still looking for a jumper :-)
Hey Tom
You don't see them often but the jumpers have rather Large fangs. These are still not deployed all the way. They fold inward like a pocket knife. They can still come forward further, you can see where they are hinged if you look close.
Nice pic, just as well they are small, that is a scarey pair of fangs
Nice set of images Tom...Jumpers always intrigue me. I can't tell you how many times they have jumped on my camera as I've tried to photograph them...Oh, and they can really jump can't they guys...
