Good morning UHH friends. Quick couple of question for you this morning. Do you automatically put a UV filter (mainly for lens protection) on each of your lenses? If you do...do you have a brand of choice? I understand that putting an inexpensive UV filter over your lens covers up the lens glass with maybe not so good glass, but is there a brand that strikes a good balance between spending a lot and very little? Thanks and have a great day.

Always and it has never given me a problem.
Hoya pro on my 24-70 f2.8 nikon and B&W fpro on my nikon 70-200 f2.8 too expensive glass to risk it going naked.
B&W favorite better made and do not stick on

Whenever I purchase a lens, I also purchase a UV filter for it. I was using HOYA filters until recently. Now I am using B+H, and replacing all the previously purchased filters, as well.

This has been debated before and I still put a filter on my lenses, usually UV. I can't afford the expensive ones so end up with whatever I can find for cheap on Craigslist or Kijiji. I think I end up with Hoya or Tiffen. I don't have B+W or Singh Ray.

I don't use a filter for lens protection, but do always have on hand a circular polariser, and 8-stop ND filter.

One lens I use does not accommodate filters, (Nikon 14-24 F2.8).

I use B+W filters. Mounting ring made from brass, great optics. I use them for protection and I like the fact that I am cleaning a less expensive filter than the lens itself.

Here's a link to a UV filter test. They also have a polarising filter test under 'Articles'.

I bought the Hoya Pro for my Siggy 15-70 and splurged for the B & W to put on my Canon 70-200L. As others have noted, dont risk good glass naked. If you use your hood alot, maybe you could get.away w/o one, but IMOP I'd always cover the glass.

tiffen is pretty good. but as far as cons i usually take mine off for sunset shots to avoid any extra flare from the filter.
