Why are Nikon DSLR's so much better than canon? Those who use Nikon are real photographers. Is it because a Nikon looks like a purposeful instrument whereas a canon camera reminds one more of a potato? Canon always seems to play second fiddle.

skill not camera

Hey, lets all get better in photography. Instead of spending time making 12 to 25 pages on inane subjects, let's go out and as Bryan Peterson says "You Keep Shooting!"

Somebody had to open that can of worms again. I for one use Nikon because I always used Nikon in my film days. But I would be happy with Canon or Nikon. Both very good systems on every leval. What ever one you chose is not going to make you a better photographer. I see some very good stuff on here shot with a point & shoot camrea.

I have Canon, Nikon, Pentax & Panasonic and don't any one is better than the other. It is a fact that more pros shoot with Canon though.

Very few pros use Linhofs and Sinars and Deardorfs .So what ?

Very few pros use Minolta and Konica. So What?

Those two I think , judging by their far more limited choices of lenses and accessories are of less interest for pros than the far larger selections of Canon and Nikon .
Even Leica despite it's super high quality and durability can't compete with the two leaders because of the same limited selection and astronomical prices .

I used to shot a Nikon and my pictures sucked, BIG TIME. Now I shoot a Canon and my pictures suck less, SMALL TIME.
I'm absolutely convinced its due to the Canon being a better camera.

My opinion. When one claims one camera is better then another would it be that that person does not understand photography, as in lighting, exposures, design techniques, the art of seeing, awareness, observant,.......etc.........?

I think their minds are too cluttered and not open?

But since the thread is about Canon & Nikon its best to stay on topic, wouldn't you say ??

Way back in the old days, I used Minolta and Konicas for tennis coverage and the paper didn't ask if it was Nikon or Canon, they just loved the images so much they ran 7 shots in two editions. But later I did buy all of them other cameras. Like now: Nikon and Canon and maybe getting a Pentax K511s. I guess I am a camera NUT!

That is a very good question! I also think the Nikons seem to take better photos. The only reason I don't buy Nikon (yet), and I hope no-one takes offense on this comment, is that I read on an animal rescue causes blog that Nikon supports bull dog fighting... How true that is I'm not sure yet, but I'm trying to find out. However, it doesn't change the fact that I also think their DSLRs take better photos. I wonder if anyone has an answer to that. :)

Marzee, wherever you read that Nikon supports the dog fights, that's total B.S. Don't believe everything you read on-line. Get out and into a life where you interact with real human beings. Go out and find facts for yourself. Exercise more than just your fingers. 8-) Exercise your mind. I hope that's still possible. 8-)

And if you keep up that action your photos will be a little better each time no matter what one you shoot with. The more you shoot the better you get. Belive me its not the camera its the guy behind it.

Hi all, I was Nikon Fan for 10 years with my Nikon F5 ( film ), I wasn’t happy with autofocus speed, I switched to Canon EOS 1D Mark 2, with several L lenses for 15 years and very happy but I find that menu is very confused. I went to focus show at UK and found Nikon menu is much more straight forward. So I sold canon and bought D4, D800, D7000 plus several good nikkor lenses and very happy since now. Overall in my opinion that Nikon is best then canon. Also if read many lenses reviews, found Nikkor lenses are bit edge over Canon lenses on depends of lenses.

Ho Hum! I once had a Nikon film camera and at that time I said I would never have another one. Alas, however, I bought a Nikon DSLR and after a year I gave it away and bought a Canon. They do not take good images for me, Perhaps it is my electromagnitism.
