overhead shooting (angles)

I see a lot of photos with what looks to be an overhead shot (above the subject). Can anyone tell me how are you getting these? Are you on a ladder/platform? I'd like to know different angles and really like the overhead shots. Thank you in advance.

I like to take pictures overhead, I use a stepladder or if there is a bench or something where i am shooting that I can stand on I do that, I take a small fold up step ladder that is easy to cary, but make sure it a steady one.

almost every studio I have been in has at least one step stool or ladder..I also like the different perspective it provides..

What types of photos? Shots of people? Shots of architecture?

For people, I see a lot of photographers use a ladder or stool.
For architecture, you can find a number of special accessories (like a computer-operated 50-foot pole that you tow on a trailer behind your car).

do you mean like this if so here is how I do it I use a 60d with a swivel screen(in live mode) get on stool or chair and hold it over the subject and shoot thats it. Before that I would shoot the same way and do about 30 shots and hope one was good, it is better to shoot wide and then crop. I hope this help just try it a few times at home and you will get it. Also wrap the strap around your wrist you don't want to drop it.

another way if for a bridge or off of a cliff I have used a remote cable and a mono pod but strap your camera to the pole as well as the atachment you don't want to drop it I have also used this to shoot over crowds at certain events it is crude but it works
