the best moon picture I have ever taken. sony a390 with 500mm telephoto lens 1/60 f8 filter 67mm ISO 200
Very nice, more than I have been able to achieve!
definatly not handheld!! the lens is extremly long so it kept getting to shaky! i used a tripod!

I took a stab at handheld last night with my 100-400mmL. That is a beast! It turned out pretty good. My settings were f/16, ISO 200, 1/400
do you have that picture? i would love to see it! im hoping to get better at taking pictures with telephoto lens's i just have to shaky of hands=[

Why surely! It isn't the best but for handheld I thought it was ok. I had to look up which also created more of a challenge.
that is absolutly awesome for hand held!!! i could never even get close to that!! the color looks great on it i love how you can see so much detail!!!

Well thank you Caitlyn! I rarely use a tripod. Usually for shots with a big lens or shutterspeed slower than 1/60 but I am gonna practice more handheld for those. Here is a better shot of the moon where I did use a tripod and also did a little editing in photoshop. The exif info is 1/400, f/9, 400mm focal length ISO:400 taken on 1/20/2011.
I hope you do not mind, but you said the magic word-"Sony". I love my Sony. This was taken with my first Sony, an a500 using a Sony 300mm lens. Hand held No less! I have not yet been able to duplicate it or take as nice of a shot even when using a tripod. Val might appreciate this since she is that good and I'm not. LOL. Oh, yeah. No photoshopping. Just pure luck.
taken 6, june, 2011 @ 855pm. F 5.6 @ 1/60 sec. ISO 200.
I am hoping to get more practice wig moon shots since all my minolta film camera lens fit my Sony but great job!!
Tainkc- I am so glad you have one of the alpha cameras too! I absolutely love mine! I think with some shots it is jus luck 'right time at the right place':) but that I a fantastic shot! Thank you for sharing!
Moon shots need brightening and a touch of contrast to bring out the character of it. Cmon peeps...make the moon glow !
Hope you don't mind tainkc, I love that you didn't PS your moon, and I cant get a good shot of the moon till I improve my glass, so I did what PWhisperer asked and did it up. Only I used Lightroom 3, I adjusted the chromatic abrasion, gave it some contrast, sharpened it up, enlarged it a bit, and adjusted the color. Thanks so much, and I truly hope I didn't overstep any boundaries here. If I did I apologize.
Now THAT is a great moon shot Steve. Well done !
