Took two photos of this butterfly. Can't decide which is better. Any preference or constructive criticism would be welcome.

I like the first one because I like that it shows more detail of the butterfly. But both are nice!

#1 give awesome detail and has very little to distract, however #2 sure gives an added dimension and emphasizes the size comparison between the butterfly and it surroundings.

Thank you for the input everyone. I guess the consensus is that we should look at our subjects from more than one viewpoint.

Beautiful shots! I prefer the first one due to the greater butterfly detail and the more uncluttered background.
Where were those taken? I get a lot of cool shots like that in Butterfly World in Pompano Beach, FL. If you're curious, check out some of my earlier threads :).

Really like the soft pastel floral colors of the background, seems to bring out the butterfly more and it seems more fitting than the dark background and clutter of the 2nd.

Thank you, Joyfullee. Your comments were on the mark. The second photo was too cluttered in the background and too much in focus, which distracted from the butterfly itself. This is the kind of input I was looking for.
