Fellow Hedgehogs - are you willing to join me in making the Supreme sacrifice to help us out of our fiscal mess?

I'm going to bite the bullet, too!!!!

President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100,000,000.00 ($100 million) from the $3,500,000,000,000.00 ($3.5 trillion) federal budget.

I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget. I spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting axe, go through my expenses, and cut back.

I'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio (1/35,000) of my total budget. After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2,000 a month, I'm going to have to cut that number by six cents. Yes, I'm going to have to get by with $1999.94, but that's what sacrifice is all about.

I'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries - six cents worth.

Did this President actually think no one would do the math? Please send this to everyone on your list so people understand how idiotic a $100 million cut is in a $3.5 trillion budget - ludicrous!!!!!!!

"There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation...
One is by sword...
The other is by debt."
John Adams 1826

The really sad thing is that many people will think that this farce actually represents a painful cut in expenditures. Will the bleeding never end?

And the even sadder thing is, Ken, this isn't even a REAL cut in spending! This is just a cut in the anticipated spending INCREASE. Can you imagine when they really (really, really) have to cut real, actual spending? OMG!! Save us, Lord!

Want to really address the deficit? Reduce spending on defense.

Maybe someday when we have a president and congress that really wants to help America instead of themselves.

Ray, You haven't as yet told us where you plan to cut that $.06/month in your budget.

Until we can get some more specifics, you're being no better than the repubs and the dems.

For all we know it's coming out of your weekly donation to the church. I'd be more impressed if I was to hear it was coming out of the 'beer' budget.

That would help some Frank but as compared to the entitlement programs defense is a flat line... Even so you are correct, I watched some of the news earlier and I have to think how sad it is that we are staring down two potential maybe three conflicts right now... Syria as they have fired missiles in to Lebanon, a renewed Korean Conflict, and tensions are extremely high between China and Japan... Then right around the corner we will have Iran...

How did we get to the point that if there is any conflict in the world whatsoever that we must somehow become involved? And how does this amount of spending serve the American taxpayer?

I wouldn't dun the church. Instead of getting the 32oz big gulp, I'm going with a 16 oz'er & a 12 oz can. I'd like Bloomberg to know I'm doing my part.

Perhaps you mean cut spending so much on wars we have no chance of winning. Or, how about reducing wasteful appropriations for pork spending projects promoted by Congressmen to enhance their presence at home.

With the world full of serious threats to America from abroad, there are some military areas which simply cannot be cut. The threats from Iran and North Korea are real and cannot be put aside until after they have the bomb.By then, we and our Allies may be dust. We also cannot leave our men in uniform flapping in the wind abroad while funding is cut for their support.

I was in the Army in 1949 and 1950. Our training ammo and equipment was mostly left over from WW2. President Truman and Congress reduced military appropriations to the extent that there was not enough money for new equipment and ammunition to keep up with where the world was headed. When North Korea attacked in June, 1950, we sent out woefully undertrained and undersupplied troops to stop them. If we had been really prepared, I don't believe the North Koreans would have dared to attack. We should also have been spending on better intelligence so that we would have known serious trouble was brewing in Korea. We didn't have a clue!

Defense spending actually creates jobs. Paying people not to work that can work is wasteful spending, along with the pork, perks for "special" people and other things. There is a lot of waste in the government. Fix the waste and stop the politics.

Sad as it is that America will probably get involved, without American intervention and enormous sacrifice in the past, much more of the world would be under dictatorial rule. Most of Europe would speak either German or Russian as it's first language. A big sacrifice, but an enormous thankyou.

I'm with you, I will cut my budget by the same amount. I guess if all the UHH members do this we can pay off the debt in 1 and 1/2 thousand years.
