Bought this set up last Dec. Have used a little but not much. Way to much outfit or me. Maybe someone and use the 36mpx to the full potential. With tax cost approx $4193. selling for $3350.

Are you sure it wasn't the D600 your friend got? The body for the D800 is about $3,000.00 and the 28-300mm Nikkor another several hundred on top. This is a great deal for anyone with the money and the market for the two.
Maybe you can get the kit for $2,800, but I haven't seen it offered.

Just talked to him and it is a used D800 and the 28-300 nikkor lens. I know he got a great deal but the guy must have needed the money

Just as another point of reference, B&H has a used d800, body only, for $2500.
