Anyone ever cut down a Benbo?

I have always liked the Benbo range of tripods..OK, so a bit of a knack to setting them up, but I have had one now for ..20 plus years.
At the end of last year I was in Mifsuds and they had a Benbo Trekker, in the used section..got it I think for £20 :)
I had always been looking for a Trekker, but it is bigger (longer) than I imagined
Now since I already have a Benbo No. , this is really a (Another) spare tripod.
I was wondering about cutting its length down, sliding the leg sections out, cutting both sections and the main 'centre' tube and re building.
It looks very much like the end fittings on the legs are moulded on, so removing them may well end up a destructive, one way process.
Any one eve had one apart or broken one?
