Just an experiment shooting a Geranium leaf with a microscope objective mounted on an extension tube. This is actually greater than 5x, because I did some cropping of this stacked set. It's pretty difficult to get that narrow DOF so I may relegate this to the back shelf of "I tried it but didn't like it"
I am pleased that you are experimenting. Please write a synopsis of your findings.
We need to compile results of different methods of macro magnification.
The narrow depth of field is characteristic of microscopy.
When using a microscope, it is necessary to use the fine focusing adjustment to focus up and down through the various planes in order to build up an appreciation of the entire object in the field of view.
In photomicroscopy, you would have to use focus stacking to achieve a similar result.
Don't consider your effort a failure, you are on the brink of an entirely new kind of photo.
Very interesting,I like it,can't wait to read all about how you did this.

It's an experiment, that's for sure. Very difficult to get focus right. This is the detail from the back of the new penny design I posted several days ago.
