I had my camera in B&W mode and didn't realize it...The Bird was gray and black anyway...

flew up in a tree and just perched there??
Looks like a loggerhead shrike?
I believe it is a Northern Shrike because of the hooked bill. The Loggerhead Shrike has a stubby bill without the obvious hook at the tip.

Last shrike I encountered was a neighbor's wife, waiting for him to come home from an all nite poker game. with a rolling pin in one hand and baseball bat in 'tuther! Her not him with the weapons.
