A letter to the editor

This appeared recently in a local paper in the Opinions section. I'm sure it will be supported but also attacked in equal numbers.

Gene Kamena’s column on the federal sequester’s implications (March 5) is a thoughtful, compelling analysis of some of the most regrettable realities in Washington, D.C., compounded by runaway federal executive branch spending and borrowing by the administration of President Obama.

Think about these facts: The federal government is now borrowing 43 percent of its annual expenditures. The federal debt has now reached $16.5 trillion, more than the entire GDP. The president shows no desire to reform “entitlements,” which now constitute about 63 percent of spending. And debt servicing may be another 6 percent.

A majority of Americans who actually voted in 2012 chose not to support the presidential candidate who would have actually worked to turn this mess around.

This inexcusable situation, if it continues, is likely to end in a catastrophe. The Republican-led House of Representatives now constitutes the sole principal obstacle to President Obama, Sen. Reid and Rep. Pelosi from driving our country over the socialist edge and into to a ramshackle welfare state.

Intelligent citizens should be alarmed and, frankly, angered by these developments. We have only our country to save.

So your posting is your opinion of someone else's opinion of Gene Kamena's piece which is in itself an opinion...

Did you yourself even go and read the Kamena piece? Okay, here's a quote, "If ruler for a day, I would sequester Congress’ pay until they passed a balanced budget amendment, sought out and terminated government waste and then passed term-limit legislation to ensure the insanity reflected by sequestration ends once and for all.
If these people (both parties) did their jobs instead of trying to keep their jobs, we would be better off. Fortunately for Congress, I rule nothing." And this comes courtesy of the Montgomery Advertiser. Read it and find me one part of it that singles out the Executive Branch.

I didn't offer an opinion. I just submitted the article that I clearly stated was in the "Opinion" section. And no I haven't read the entire piece but plan to do so tomorrow. Then I'll give my opinion of his opinion and you can give your opinion of my opinion of his opinion. Or something like that. :roll:

What difference does it make? It's the Montgomery Advertiser published in Montgomery, AL. Maybe you've heard of it. You know, the little town in the Heart of Dixie. The home of uneducated racist rednecks without indoor plumbing. You should visit Montgomery some time. We can burn a cross and make sure our robes and hoods are clean. :roll:

It makes a lot of difference as all politics is local and opinions published in local papers are important. I did a little checking and Montgomery is a white minority town so I don't believe there is a lot of cross burning going on there. I do believe that the opinions are sour grapes over the proposed cuts to military spending that would indeed have cause economic distress in the area. I lived in Los Angeles when the aerospace industry died and it wasn't pretty. I grew up in Pittsburgh and watch the steel industry die and that wasn't pretty either. My dad worked in the mills for 35 years. Therefore, I can understand why there would be some blow back. What I do not understand is why the writer thinks socialism is a bad word and that government is bad when the government is the largest employer in the area. That's cutting of your nose to spite your face. Additionally, the President won the popular vote by a wide margin. True not in your neck of the woods but that fact that makes the writer of this piece a liar. Additionally, more Americans voted for Democratic Congressional candidates than Republican Candidates. The only reason the Republicans hold the House and can hold back the progress of the economy is due to gerrymandering of the Congressional districts.

The writer of this piece in your paper believes that if you continue to tell the same lies over and over again someone will begin to believe them. Such is not the case.

Of course you rendered an opinion... You copied and pasted it into a new thread so you definitely thought is had some merit. If you thought it was a bunch of hooey you wouldn't even have bothered. I'm not saying that we can't all express our opinions, but I took a few minutes to read what was being written about and it says nothing of the sort.

I have my moments. We probably don't agree on much as far as political issues but I've found through some PM's that those I thought to be complete assholes are very intelligent and engaging people. It's always good to try to interpret another point of view. Damn that sounds pretty smart for an uneducated country boy. :thumbup:

So you really don't need any reason, just any ol' negative comment and the mention of the name Obama and you're ready to get on that train. But that's okay, it's your rant. Just don't fritter away too much time, the mid term elections will be here next year, and some of those people in Washington may need a reminder of who they work for. It doesn't take a genius or a tinfoil hat to see that the party of the R's and the party of the T's need a bridge to work between themselves. They also need a bigger bridge to show the masses that they really are like the folk. If you don't believe that then follow the actions of Reince Priebus lately.

Oh by the way, here is the Kamena piece since never said if you had actually read it or not;

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20130305/OPINION/303050023/Gene-Kamena-Sequestration-hurts-innocent

Enjoy your rant Pounder.
