live bee, hand held,
like shooting dogs and kids, won't quit moving

Not too shabby!
you asked for it you got it....having an issue with perfect focus, it's either the lens, the diopter adjustment, or my variable bifocals or some combination, its driving me battie. I can get close by getting it perfect in eyepiece then go back to barely blurry and hit the shutter and hope.........
Really nice shot! What is your setup and how are you calculating your magnification?
Bob - You need to post to the Macro Set-Up thread, a photo of your Canon camera & Canon MP-E 65-mm lens (folded & fully extended).

Hey thanks, I just got the Canon MP-E 65mm 1X-5X manual focus. It has markings for 1-5, and I had it set on 4x for this shot.
I have my 100-mm IS in the macros set-up section. I will post a picture of the MP-E 65-mm lens with RRS rig I use, and the MT-24 twin flash with DYI diffusers.
I got my diffuser design from
http://nocroppingzone.blogspot.com/2011/04/mt-24ex-diffuser-design.html He does some great work.
I am well aware of the MP-E 65... So I know the setup.. I was just wondering about your magnification as I shoot some stacked lens a bit and have a lot of bee shots at somewhere around 3X that it seemed hard to get into the frame.. You did a really good job on squaring on that bee, I especially like the fact that he was a live bee...
What are you using for diffuser material on your twinlites?
Do you mind my posting a pic on this thread? I would like to show you how soft the light can be from a diffuser using just simple paper towel for the diffusing material...

I'll give it a try, love simple
before
I think that you may be surprised, reading Lord V is what convinced me to make my first softbox using paper towel, it is also the material that Shahan uses in his boxes... Fstop22 who posts his jumping spiders here does also. There was an immediate improvement in his work when he made his softbox using paper towel and I know that it allows me to capture detail that I was unable to before.... You got a great lens, look forward to seeing more of your work.

yup the weak link won't be the lens

Hey, thought just occurred to me. Are you shooting full frame? maybe that is the difference on the frame fill.

No, I shoot macro with a 50D.. I use a lot of different setups, my favorite for high mag was a 100/50mm stacked lens which gave me 2X to 3X magnification but the iris in my 100mm stopped working... I also have a 180mm that I can get 3.6X to 4.6X with but honestly I don't like shooting much over 3X because DOF is just too much of a challenge when shooting in the field.. I can reverse a 28mm on that lens and the magnification gets really silly, 6X to 7X but highly impractical for the stuff that I do. I also shoot reversed lenses and reversed with tubes, but I find that for some reason reversed lenses on tubes produce a lot of flare and in the end a lot of those shots in the end are useless...
