Your critter is an adult rove beetle. The wings are folded beneath the very short elytra that you can see just behind the thorax. It may be in the genus Ontholestes, but I'm not well versed on this group at lower taxonomic levels.
Rove beetles don't bite or sting but their blood contains a toxin that causes rather severe irritations and blistering if the skin is exposed to the body fluid.
