It would have been interesting if he had refused to comply rather than delete the photos. Maybe photographers will have to stick to photographing their pets, it's safer. 8-)

That is unfortunate. Apparently Biden's staff has made several mistakes. Beginning to see a pattern.

Good for Joe's office. Others could take note.

It's amazing, we used to criticize the former USSR for this type of behavior, we never thought that things like this would happen here in this country.... How could his staff even think that they could demand the deletion of those photos, he is a VP, a public figure, how is it that one has to be qualified as a member of the press to photograph a public address of the sitting Vice President....

I know, we shouldn't be disturbed by these things, only right wing zealots would think that this is something to be concerned with.

Substitute the name Dick Cheney for Joe Biden and this would have been front page news on the NY Times & Washington Post. 8-)

The more and more that I become aware of what happens with our government at all levels the more and more I am pushed to the libertarian movement... It is not just the party in power but both parties at all levels of government.... The only thing that I don't understand about the democratic party though was their strange embrace of the OWS movement... I guess that they were desperate for a counter to the Tea Party no matter that such a strong embrace made them look the fools that they are... Had the Tea Party staged the same protests there would have been outrage and mass arrests, the dems in congress would have gone wild with accusations of terrorism in our streets.

This all ties in with the erosion of 1st amendment rights in America. Freedom of speech (as opposed to carrying a murder device) is something worth fighting for.

Last spring I rode along with an AARP group to Washington. We were in the Senate Office Building visiting Senators to discuss the proposed cuts to Social Security.

Security checked in and xrayed my cameras. They told me I could photograph. There are no signs that say you can't photograph. For the first fifteen offices it was no problem. In the office of some Senator from one of the mid-west states, I forget which one, a young lady came out from behind her counter and tried to take my head off for looking through the viewfinder. She treatened to have me arrested and thrown in jail if I did not turn off the camera. Since there was nothing of interest and the Senator wasn't there I just said OK.

BTW: Those people really do believe that SS is a government hand-out.

Of course they might because the dems are in power at the moment. If the teahadists were in the White House, the girl might be in chains by now. Do you actually think the right wing would allow pictures if they in any way thought the pics might come back to haunt them? You under estimate the fear and loathing all political groups have of each other and the rest of us at this point in history.

And why does everyone think this is something new? We had the police doing the same thing years ago as they do now, if not worse. You have seen the photos and film of the civil rights marches, I'm sure. The 'homeland security' nonsense has just given them more ammo against the average citizen, that's all. And both sides voted for it and so we will have it forever now. Government of the people, by the people, for the people is an ideal that most govts. have no patience for. Don't look for it to improve any time soon. There are too many people with too many agendas battling with each other. Homeland security, presidents, vice presidents, governors, and whoever else in power don't have the patience nor the inclination to decide what is legal and what isn't. Arrest them all and then sort them out. Get used to it because it's a natural outgrowth of a political system too ideal for those who love power. Idealists institute govts. for the people. Realists and crazies run them.

Blurryeyed and Bmac, you seem to have forgotten the treatment of protesters during the Republican conventions a few years ago. No signs, no T-shirts, no protesters of any kind allowed within a mile of the conventions. No photo ops.

Not saying Biden's staff was right, but at least they acknowledged improper behavior.

No one has the the right to demand you delete a photo. Once the photo has been made, it is the property of the photographer.
That applies even in places where photography is forbidden. Of course making photos in such a place could result in a trespassing charge.

Know your rights and stick to them. Otherwise you will lose them.
