Hi,
Do you find yourself using the 50mm prime lens mostly?
At this point in time yes, I have wanted to get other lenses, but have not been able to find any other lenses, for my camera. That is part of the reason for the switch.

check out Nikon olympus or pentax. My best advice is find a professional camera store (not wally world, sams best buy office depot). THe kind of place that a real photographer is behind the counter. go there handel different models and brands see what fits the best, has the most comfortable to you controls. Once you made a decision PLEASE BUY YOUR CAMERA FROM THE LOCAL STORE. yes you can save a little bit on the internet or discount houses. by buying from a camera store you are helping to maintain a local resource to have your photography questions answered correctly by a professional versus a discount store answered incorrectly by a minimum wage untrained drone. In addition the local camera store serves as a social gathering place for photographers like a barber shop or local cigar shop. good luck

Very good advise Sinatraman. A good photography retailer will give you support the bargain basement places won't offer. That is something to consider if you are wanting to do any type of serious photography.
I agree with tainkc. Sony has many things that make it one to consider and an excellent choice. Many lens are avialabe for Sony Alpha camera as they except the Konica/Maxxum Lens with AF.

besides its not fair to the store or salesman when somebody walks in takes the salesman time handels the cameras makes a decision then walks out to order it on the internet. And then to add insult to injury comes into the store with the camera they bought elsewhere and wants his questions answered. In my book thats NOT COOL

I agree, there's nothing that used to jack me up more when I had an auto repair shop, than for someone to come in wanting me to troubleshoot their car for free, so they could take it home and work on it. Nothing like a cold slap in the face.
I am so glad you said that about testing and buying a camera from the local photographers store - we have a wonderful local photo place where they are always willing to help and i was so disappointed when a woman came in and asked to see and try several cameras and then had the nerve to say she was going to go shop the internet - i said well they help you here with your camera you should support your this business because they help you with your equipment once you buy it.
It is disappointing to see people forget that to save a few dollars. i agree with your thoughts on that wholeheartedly.

I am so about buying locally, I am however looking forward to renting them for a week to take pictures and decide which one suits me best. Then I will look in stores locally to buy.
I live in a small community in Central Wa. about 50 miles NW from here there was a great shop. About 70 miles south there were two shops. All are gone. Outta business. Now I have to travel about a 120 miles, so I am pretty much contrained to the internet. As our world got smaller the small businessman has disappeared. :-(

if you are forced to the internet let me recomend the three most trusted sited by the pros: adorama.com, b+hphoto.bom for new and used and keh.com for used. all three have excellant reputations, the first two are actually huge camera stores in nyc the last only sells used and is out of atlanta. You will always get a good deal and never be screwed unlike ebay and other sites. I figure good enough for the pros good enough for me.
I bought a Sony A390 this past winter and love it. It uses A mount lenses so there is a variety to choose from. tameron has lenses that work and I bought a 18mm to 200mm lens and that is pretty much all I use. Gets the images that I want and need. i don't know if your aware, but Sony bought out Minolta, theymake the sensors for Nikon and have won camera of the year for the last two years for their 500 series. Their cameras run a bit cheaper but with the same good quality. Something to consider as they are becomming a condetender quickly. just food for thought.

I have a T2i and just love it. However I am seriouly looking to upgrade to the T3i soley for the flexible view finder. I like to shoot low and don't want to crawl on the ground doing it.
Look it all boils down to what YOU are comfortable with. If you like the camera and are use to shooting with a Canon then stay with it. It's worth the look at the 50D if you want the versatility of lens' also you can get other manufactures that offer lens that fit the Canon. What ever works for you and the quality of your photos will make you comfortable.
You are getting some great advice, I believe Sony, Olympus and Pentax all have image stabilization in the body. I saw a review on the internet where they compared the stabilization between in the body to in the lens and I personally thought in the body was best. Surprisingly using both together canceled each other out. I applaud your decision to rent and try them out.
