I turned over a couple logs this afternoon and found these.
Handheld at 1/200 F11 iso100 and used on-camera flash.

Shot #2 shows a bug eating at the side of a very small slug. While I was shooting this the centipede(I think)walked bye.
Busy intersection! I wonder what of interest, the wood louse found on the slug?
Your narrow DoF is quite apparent on these photos. A pop-up flash just does not have the power of a speedlight.

Oh I know....after my bank account recovers from this lens purchase...next is a SB600 or a ring flash...or both.
Not sure about the wood louse...but it had its head planted in the side of it for some reason.
i like #2 but not so sure its a woodlouse.tom

I believe that you are both correct. Do I see a springtail?

Now that I look at it like this....I think it is Douglass.
Great photos, turning that log over was like a casting call for macro models.
I'm curious about the flash setting you used. Is there an advantage to using rear sync?

I don't think any real advantage...also my hand on the lens blocks some of the light...can see it in shot 1 and 4. Before long hopefully a good speedlight.
