It's a very funny post, but as I think about it, I doubt it actually happened. Why would the largest ship in the American Navy be anywhere near a Canadian lighthouse? I was never in the Navy, but this scenario seems implausible. Can any Navy guys out there either back me up or show me where I'm wrong?

I just checked Snopes, and versions of this story have been around since 1939. False, but still funny.

The lighthouse is in Newfoundland and ships going from the East Coast to Europe would pass close to it.The same as Nova Scotia.That's the main shipping lane.It's been so for ages.

The original story was between the Russians and the Americans.
Seems to have been revised from ten years ago.
