Out of curiosity, I followed an ad link at the bottom of a page here for Nikon d800 for $1299.00. It had several "stores" offering up to $1699.00, and then the big boys at retail. I followed Best Choice Photo to reseller rating - and they aren't even listed. I'm sure admin has no say over what is advertised, but that was just wrong!

Couple of weeks ago made observation about UHH ads and next day admin moved my comment to a whole other chat room. Hmmm

That's probably because technically this topic should go in the general chit chat section. That's what it is. It's not an observation about photography or a question about photography so it goes there. To keep things in order Admin moves them to appropriate sections when they are in the wrong one.

As I understand it, your browser controls what is advertised. I have done a lot of searches for Canon and all of a sudden most of my advertising was for..... wait for it.....Canon! I don't think UHH has any control....... Could be wrong. I'm sure that some real techies will have the answer...

The site must be getting revenue from the ads, so Admin must have some control over them.

Of course the owner is getting money for the ads! This is how he makes a living. He will get paid a set amount for every click through. He probably has little control over the exact ads that are placed but there is an automated process that chooses the general type of ads you see. Hence the high incidence of photography based advertisers.

I kinda like the fact that ads are at times related to the topic at hand. Sometimes makes a search process easier. Also, have no complaint about need for ads.

You're right, not a comment about photography but was a comment about what was occurring in this particular chat room. So somewhat disagree. As you can tell my feelings about this aren't particularly strong one way or the other. Wife says I have too much free time and need to focus on more important issues. :P

I wasn't really complaining about the ads, but the shyster advertisers. There is apparently no need for honesty in business anymore, and it is a sad comment that their is no way to filter out the deceitful ones. Let the buyer beware.

As you can see this thread has been moved as well which is what I figured would happen. At least Admin cares enough to make sure that things try to stay somewhat organized around here.
