The day before the 16 oz. soda rule was to be implemented, a NY judge has ruled that it can't be enforced.

It's about time a little common sense has prevailed.

Why anyone would want a sugary drink this size is beyond me. But as long as they're not harming anyone else, it's just natural selection at work.

Well the whole idea is that you get on a slippery slope when you (the Govt.) starts to decide for others what they should want.

The Mayor just held a press conference and he's appealing the court decision.
I think the whole thing is just silly on both sides.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that the fatter we get, the sicker we get. Here is a link to some maps of the country showing the state by state increase in obesity rates over time and the corresponding alarming increases in diabetes rates. The national rise in diabetes and other diseases caused by obesity causes an increase in all of our health insurance premiums. It also causes the premature death of our loved ones.

I don't know if NYC's law will ultimately prevail in the courts, but if nothing else it has hopefully made people think twice about the advisability of drinking that supersized soda.

Think of it this way .... someone without health insurance consumes these 20 oz drinks .... becomes medically obese because of it .... goes to the hospital needs care .... you pay .... so the person who dose not take care of himself and is allowed to indulge in bad behavior is now causing you to pay for his medical care ..... did you agree to it .... no ..... so maybe Bloomberg is correct .....if people will not care for themselves .... which will cause you to pay for their care ..... maybe government does have a responsibility to motivate people to take care of the, selves ....

Consider this .... the people of Mass. re-elected(many times) the people you refer to as morons .... is it possible that you are wrong or at least march to a different drummer than the majority of the voters of your state .... I would guess that if I am in a room with 100 people of differing backgrounds and they all think I am a moron .... maybe they are correct ....

The government doesn't have the right to tell people how to live their lives, well in a republic anyway.

One solution would be to not stop the guy who doesn't take care of himself, it would be to stop making you pay for it.

I'll do you one better. Make it illegal to be fat. You weigh more then you are supposed to and you go to jail. BUt we can't stop there... We'll put a GPS on your car, anybody who exceeds the speed limit anywhere, under any circumstances, looses their license, speed l kills. Install breathalyzers for everything... your house, the fridge, the phone, the car, your office, the TV, you become inebriated, you go to jail. Drugs, smoke, sausage, steak, butter, ... what will they set their sights on next using the VERY same criteria.

Read George Orwells book. If you want to live like that, go ahead. Kim Jong Un has a tidy place for you, and he does make all the decision for you just like you want. Oh yeah... NO GUN CRIME either (unless you count his guns) a liberal paradise!

Well then, I guess the Gov't needs to stop people from skateboarding or piloting small planes. And Children, gawd how those little people always are sick. I guess the Gov't needs to put a stop to them also. Then since exercise leads to better health, the Gov't needs to have mandatory calisthenics. Face it, unless you think the Gov't should have complete control over the individual, you have to let them make some decisions.Post studies....yes. Grow the economy so the average income is at a point that people can afford to eat healthy ...yes. Don't REWARD bad choices...yes, but, Live my life for me....NO!!!
