Hello,

This is my shot from today. The day was beautiful and the snow had melted so I decided to see what I could find. We get these little tiny purple flowers all over in our grass. I am not sure what they are called but I think they are the ones that have those horrible seeds that get into our dogs feet. They are very sharp and hard to remove but this made an interesting photo opp. I took 3 pictures and focus stacked them plus I used a extension tube to get the detail.

Thanks for your images. Your comparison shot is not life size so causes me to wonder how minute this flower really is.

I never like finger nails in shot the emphasis goes to the nail cleanliness and shape, Tv to blame with Coiffured presenters.

I do not understand your complaint. Comparison photos are not suppose to be life-size; they are to provide a known scale, such as a fingernail, or a coin, or a ruler.

I wish the macro image was sharper, but I understand this to be an early focus-stack attempt by OP.

I think complaint is a little strong in this context, it is not meant as a grievance, or criticism more an observational statement.
A finger cannot be a representational guideline because they are different sizes for each and every one of us. My finger nails are probably a lot smaller than yours. A coin for instance is a known quantity manufactured to a size and weight, the same for a ruler.

It is all down to our own personal interpretation at the end of the day.

Like the shot. Complainers are strangely like my wife. Never can get anything right according to her. Can't wait for her to get back from Belgium and inspect my paint job. Bound to take my 70 1/2 year old thoughts of a good job in 80 degree weather up on a 15 foot ladder down a notch or six.

Really? Does anything in my name, avatar, or Bio give you the impression I go to the expense and bother to get a manicure? Well I don't. I won't apoligise or worry about it becase in the words of Rhett Butler..."Frankly Scarlet I don't give a ...." 8-)

The picture was a last second thought and all I had available was my finger. I would say it's about average size not to small but not to big. The flower is a tad larger than the end of an eraser on a #2 pencil.

Thank You Nikonian, I agree with you I also wish it was sharper. I am just learning how to do this and I will keep practicing until I perfect my skills.

Thank you Robbie. I was trying to shoot our daffodil's but they are just not open enough yet. I give it a couple more days and they will be.

So I saw this little flower and went for it. I know it's still a bit blurry (I am working on that) but when you blow it up to the magnification size you can see all the little granules of pollen on it I think it's just cool.

I'm inspecting it today for possible spots where I spread the paint too much and it might be light. LOL

This is the proper forum for requesting advice and critique on close-up focus-stacking, but obviously not the forum for critique on manicures!

It is important that you use the right tool for any given job (think metric wrench on an H-D), so I want to know which lens you used for close-up photos, and do you have a small tripod for close-to-ground photography?

P.S. - A U.S. dime is 17-mm diameter, and makes for an easy to use scale of small, inanimate objects.

Just put it down to the idiosyncrasy of one individual Brit (me);
I honestly do not mean offense, just speaking my thoughts.
