Dirty Yellow Wasp.

This guy was kinda small considering some of his cousins that I was shooting last year. I found him laying dead on the pool decking, that is why there is so much garbage on him...

The close ups were shot with a 28mm lens reversed on about 20mm worth of tubes and connecting rings, @ f/9.5 and 1/8th power flash... If you are a pixel peeper you might enjoy downloading as they are uncropped and will expand to be quite large...

The other bee was shot with a 57mm lens reversed on the same tubes at f/11 same flash setting.

A full cycle through the dishwasher spiffs 'em real good!

I am pleased that you are sharing these with us. I really believe that reversed lenses on tubes is the way to go for high mag.

I seem to always back focus, you know that I am focusing with the iris closed so this has nothing to do with auto focus, it is more a problem of working with low light and just not getting it right.

I really miss not having the 100mm still haven't replaced or fixed it. I have found that a reversed 50mm may be actually sharper than a macro... I know that sounds hard to believe because I did not believe it when Efram told me that a cropped image from his 50mm reversed was better resolved than his 100mm macro lens.. but after being forced to do some work with it I have to say that he may be right... even so, if the 100mm were working I would not be fooling around with a straight 50 or 57 reverse.

This is why I mount a Nikon BR-4 or BR-6 on reversed lens. I can focus wide-open, then close-down for photograph capture.

Nikon BR-6 & BR-4 rings
Nikon BR-6 & BR-4 rings...

Nikon BR-6 + standard cable release

Hi Blurryryed: Great job on the wasp. I think that would by my favorite way to photograph one, dead I mean, not with reversed lens and tubes. There aren't many flying critters that make me very wary but wasps are certainly at the top of my list. Every summer I have to go out and take out wasp nests around the house and yard. Vicious critters.

For some reason I never get stung... I get really close (inches) when shooting both wasps and bees and have never been stung... knock on wood.
