First critter is a California Alligator Lizard (Elgaria multicarinata)
http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/pages/e.m.multicarinata.html

Second critter is most likely a very young Arboreal Salamander (Aneides lugubris) http://www.californiaherps.com/salamanders/pages/a.lugubris.html , although it could be another salamander specie http://www.californiaherps.com/identification/salamandersid/salamanders.id2.html A dime is 17-mm diameter, so this immature salamander is only about 35-mm (1.3-inches) long.

You are definitely having fun!
