Rat Rods and Warm weather ......
My wife and I were on our way back from Custer and had stopped in Hill City when all of a sudden what should appear but a neat old rat rod. Well not wanting to miss a photo opp I jumped in the car and off we went to chase down a mystery rod.. after a long run and about 1/4 of a mile it turned into one of the shopping areas of the town and so did we ... jumped out and asked if it would be ok to take a picture or three and he said sure go ahead.
This is a 1934 Rat Rod but the owner told me it was a Ranch Rod or for a better Discription he called it a Cowboys Cadilac I thought it was more to the point.
On the hood is the hood ornament from a late model caddy so I would think that the Cowboy Caddy is a fitting name.
Note the horse shoes that are around the parking/turn signal lites and there is barbed wire holding it together in most of the places you can see on the truck I hope it is for looks only.
I was lucky in the fact that this was its first run kind of lets see if we found all of the bugs yet ... He seemed pretty happy with the results.
It has a 350 Chevy Block and headers leading to stacks.
Along with the stacks you can also see it has 1059 Caddy tail lites.
The rat was built on an S10 frame so the body was the add on in this case .... wished I had of had a few more munites but it was the first one of the season and I will be adding more as the weather permits seeing how it seems that 30 degree weather keeps most of them in the garage till things begin to warm up.
I love the receiver hitch & the pulling hooks, I wonder if he pulls anything. It's funny what U can do with a cutting torch & a welder. I'd hate to follow him on the hiway thou, no mud flaps. Love those old flowing fenders with the built in running boards. Those ole' baby moons look like they are rusted on. Lol--Good Catch Sdaupanner-means summer is a com'n when U start to see these guys.

It sure does summer is just around the bend ... this is kind of a different state I am not to sure about the rules as to what you need to be legal, I do know that you don't need doors or a hood or a trunk lid I think that only leaves the motor and frame left I had an old S10 and it had Dual Wheels a flat bed and straight pipes into stacks and they never bothered me .... of course when I saw a cop I ran with my foot of the gas. So I guess the sky's the limit I guess you have to push to see where it goes.
Well, I see Cadillac taillights and hood ornament, so I guess it IS a Cowboy Cadillac! Great shots!

She ain't pretty-She's beautiful. I'd be worried about scratching the paint work.
You better start saving your pennies if you want one. They have to sink absolute fortunes into those rat (or ranch) rods to make them look old. You could probably buy a new Caddy for what it takes. I love them, though because it takes so much creativity to make everything look absolutely real!
how about heat and air conditioning? dude, this is one of the best rats i have ever seen! thanks!

'Specially rust, that's a lot of man hours spitting and rubbing, not to mention the sunlight soap? advert sitting in the back. Love it, great pics
When around Custer State Park (SDAK), make a side trip to Alliance, Neb. and visit Carhenge for a good photo op.

I wonder if a scratch makes it worth more then we all could see that it is not fiberglass. This one is real VT that I can attest to but the frame came off an 1982 or 84 Chevy S10 .... the stacks were held on with bailing wire ... if I see it again I will get several more shots if I can get the guy who owns it to sit still long enough. These shots were about 3 or 4 min. not really long enough ot do it any justice. But thank for looking and I will see if I can get every body an update.

That is for sure many hours but as for old VT around the hills where I live there is a bunch of it ... most of it was left behind by the old miners where the motors and gear boxes and rear ends were used in the equipment that ran different parts of a mining operation. The old Vintage Tin that is in the old mine sites is to be left I was told they are historical finds. Thanks for looking!!!
