Just a bit of experimentation with a Peacock feather to get lighting techniques down. This being a highly iridescent subject it gives unique challenges with macro stacking. Macro stacking gets very confused when of the 80 layers you're trying to stack, only a few contain the information in focus but the rest have that same info out of focus. Out of focus info means halos where you don't want them.
This is a Peacock feather at 12:1 magnification, using a Nikon 10x microscope objective and Raynox as infinite tube. This was much more difficult than I expected - I think it's because it is so bright with these iridescent shades, which seep over into the blacks because in the stacking process.
Took several attempts and a ton of retouching to get it anywhere near to what I was seeing with the naked eye. 3 flashes used with most of the light coming from the left but in a 3:2 ratio to add an element of 3D definition.
For those of you with Zerene Stacker interest, this was a pMax shot with 10um steps, 80 shots stacked, and a first shot at using some of the new features in the current beta - the Lanczos3 (6x6) advanced interpolator. Not entirely sure what it does but the result seems okay.

Excellent new use of a proven technique. Sounds like a lot of work!
Exquisite as always. I am in awe.
"seems ok" seems like an understatement..........
