Angler, great shots. What's the name of the bird - it certainly isn't a Southeastern variety. We have titmice, but not these. Also, how did you blur the entire background out?

Cheers dawegever and thanks for looking its really appreciated. Both birds are the British variety, the first two are Great tits and all the others are Blue tits.To get the blurred back ground i set my camera on a tripod with a pan and tilt head about 10 feet from the subjects and on this occasion due to the freezing weather i took the shots through the double glazed units in my daughters house.I set set my shutter to 1000 and my exposure was set to f/6.3.I also had my auto focus set on continuous a/f and the focal length on the lens was set to it's full 500mm.Iwas on auto because the bird where coming and going so fast i could,nt focus quick enough to get them on manual.with these settings i got the blurred background.Hope this helps.

Great pictures angler. I have a Nikon d300 and a sigma 150 to 500 lens but cannot get them as sharp as that, what settings do you use?

Cheers Nanaval and thanks for looking its really appreciated.I set my camera on my pan and tilt tripod about 10 feet from the subect and took the pics through my daughters doble glazed uits as it was freezing outside.I had my auto focus was set at continuous because the birds where too quick for me to use manual and also you can hopefully keep your shutter at the ready in focus by keeping it half way down. The shutter speed was 1/1000,
The f/stop was f/6.3
The focal length was the full 500mm so that i could fill the subject in the viewfinder.Basicly that was it.Just patience and alertness, try to get the birds in your viewfinder and shoot away. You'll not get 100% but the keepers will be worth keeping .Hope this helps and dont hesitate to get in touch if i can help any more. This is my own personal way of doing at and other photograpers may do it a different way.

What beautiful birds Angler. You should be proud of these images. It looks like you are shooting at or near a feeder. If you are, try placing a few twigs for perching close by. Then you won't have to deal with the sprinkled seeds in the image. They are great shots though, regardless.
