Why Carry a Gun?

My old grandpa said to me 'Son, there comes a time in every man's life
when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's
when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin.'

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the
world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating
myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and
not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a
cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the
ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am
inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it
meaningful to me.
Police protection is an oxymoron.
Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate
the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to
take an ass whoopin'.....author unknown (but obviously brilliant)

Interesting point where you say:
"Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate
the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.".
We have that problem in the UK too. The police may concentrate on crime prevention, but then the next year they have their budget cut because there's less crime to deal with. Dont you just love politicians.

All based on the ridiculously flawed assumption that carrying a gun makes you safer.

It does in a minority of situations, but the truth is clearly backed by statistics.

1. Civilians who carry guns are far more likely to die by gun than people who don't.
2. Civilians who carry guns are around 20 times more likely to kill or grievously injure innocents than those who don't.

Idiots who carry guns as civilians are a danger to themselves and others.

Well Wellheim, sounds to me like the politicians have got it right, less crime less police needed, and I dont carry a gun because I do not have to, I love the UK.
I travel all over the world and in many 3rd world countries and feel less safe in the USA than any where else

The reason there was less crime, is there were more police about. Not driving around getting to scenes of crimes that had already happened. Walking around local neighbourhoods detering crime.

True idiots are a danger, with or without a gun. There may not, however, be as many idiots in the world as you likely think there are.

Obviously your government has lulled you into a false sense of security.

It's not the guns that make me feel unsafe. It's knowing that the criminals are the ones who have all the rights.

We recently had a rash of Bank robberies here in the Ft Myers area. Some quit close to our home.

I felt really good when my wife asked 'Is your gun readily available and loaded?'

I said "right in the table next to my spot on the bed and a round in the chamber and it's on safety'.

Then I showed her how to flip the safety off. NO we don't have children in the house and my dog would warn us of anyone near the house, giving me plenty of time to open the drawer, flip the safety off and have 8 rounds of semi-automatic shots available.

That's not even thinking of the closet where the AR-15 is with 3 30-round banana clips taped together are. You vets know the arrangement for the taped clips.

Black Bart, I would also like to see where this idiotic statement can be validated.
