Photoscape

Has anyone else used this free software? If so, any opinions? As a rank ameteur, it seems to do what I need???

I use it and do not have anything against it, probably used it to it's limit though, thinking of an upgrade to something with more variety as PhotoScape is limited.

Although it is free, Photoscape has limited utility. I always recommend that my students try FastStone ImageViewer or FlexPhotoDB. Both are free and have greater utility for editing and manipulating your images. With either of these you may crop, resize, alter levels and curves, clone, sharpen, alter color balance and perform numerous other tasks.

Yes, yes, I know, many people will strongly recommend Photoshop in one or more of its various iterations, But, as a newcomer, you have enough on your plate without adding the expense and steep learning curve of any form of Photoshop. Why spend money when you can learn and do a lot for free?

Photoscape has rather limited editing capabilities. But it does come with some really cool tools that are either unique or are more easy to use and set up than with most other programs. Printing out customized contact sheets for example.

I use Photoscape & Picasa. I'm not a PP fanatic & either does all that I need. They both do the basics (exposure correction, contrast, saturation, hue, sharpening, cropping, resizing, straightening, plus some 'gimmicky' stuff).

I know some people enhance every photo they take, but I only use PP if needed. Both Photoscape & Picasa are extremely user friendly.

Photoscape is a terrific free program, and does much more than many free programs. Especially good for one just entering the post processing field, and can even introduce you into the world of 'layers'... which you will eventually enjoy using even more if or when you use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. I used Photoscape for quite some time and found that it did quite a lot. Give it a try... the price is right. :)

Thanks for this post. I remembered I have this photoscape. Now when I looked at the convert Raw to Jpg I see for photos taken with DSLR cams.
My camera is Sony Digital Still Camera and Video DSC-H1 Cyber-shot 5.1 MegaPixels
And to be honest I haven't seen any indication if it is a DSLR. I see DSC in the name above. But will Photoscape convert my raw. I have 1 raw pic somewhere in my files and haven't tried to convert it yet.
Boy! I AM an amateur.

Yes I use it often, especially for layers and graphics. Graphics wise it's not as good as some but it does the job I want done. The program has lots of other options as well - great and the price is just right!

I've included a couple of shots... top is graphics illustration. Second is a layer I did here at the house.
